[Groff] PfaEdit: better TTF -> Type1 conversion than ttf2pt1?

A while back, I suggested that ttf2pt1 could be used to convert TrueType
fonts to Type1 for groff. Werner quite rightly pointed out that this can
create problems with the character encoding.

I've recently stumbled across PfaEdit -- http://pfaedit.sourceforge.net/
-- which aims to be a Fontographer clone for Unices. As it's Unicode
aware, it seems to make a better job of encoding than ttf2pt1 when
converting a font. Has anyone tried this program and verified its
results?

(If you have autotrace installed, it can trace bitmaps to font outlines,
which is as nifty as you think it sounds. You can set up a PostScript
font of frequently-used characters. Just as long as you don't start
spamming people with YOUR SIGNATURE AS A TRUETYPE FONT! messages, as was
the vogue a few years ago.)
