Would any of this pertain to -Tlatin1, -Tascii, -Tutf8, etc,
or any tmac.* other than tmac.html?

Using my tmac.www and -Tlatin1 I have no whitespace problem.

I do not need \&, either.

(I hope to post an overhauled tmac.www, with docs and samples, in a few
days.)
