Not your ignorance of Linux.

The whole point of programs like scons and make is to hide the arcana
of each operating system so that one does not have to be a guru to
compile and run a program.

Perhaps we would all be better served if the installation portion of
gpsd's scons included a call to ldconfig. At least, we would be saved
repeating that bit of advice every few year on this list.
