gpsd accessing a non-permanent port

How good is gpsd at handling non-permanent ports? I want it to connect
to /dev/ttyUSB1 but this is an LTE module. If the user inserts a new
SIM card the LTE module may reboot itself to load new firmware for a
different carrier so the USB port may disappear and reappear. Can gpsd
handle this? If not, how do I find out if it needs to be restarted?
