Can you send us a capture of the bad stream? Maybe a minutes worth?
Simple to do, something like this:
cat /dev/ttyS0 > capture.nmea
Then we have a good test case to keep on file.
Better yet, fill out a complete hardware report, as outlined here:
http://catb.org/gpsd/hardware.html
You may also want to check your serial port speed and slow control. gpsd
should not die on something like this, but your GPS should not be acting
so poorly either.
