I rebuilt with that, still no luck:

# ../gpsinit vcan
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'vcan': Invalid argument
Error: Unknown device type.
Cannot find device "vcan0"

# ls /lib/modules/5.15.6-gentoo/kernel/drivers/net/can
dev  vcan.ko.xz

# modprobe vcan
