Yes, that would certainly make sense and fit the architecture of the
overall system.
Also: if you can find a way to replace the ring topology with (ideally)
a KAD-like topology (log n links to peers at XOR distances), you should
become much more robust against network failures, peer failures or
malicious peers *and* might even get good synergies in terms of
CORE-level connections with the DHT (that's why I'm susgesting
KAD-like). That said, going from ring to KAD should probably be a v2
feature -- just putting it out there now ;-).
