This is a headsup for system integrators:
The currently released major version of GNUmed is 1.7 which
requires
Python 2
wxPython 3
database v22
to work properly.
However, porting Python 2 applications to Python 3 is widely
recommended for future maintenance. Therefore, GNUmed 1.8
will have the following requirements:
Python 3
wxPython 4
but will still run against the very same database version 22,
which means GNUmed 1.7 and 1.8 can be run in parallel against
the same database for system integration and local deployment
testing of the switchover py2/py3 and wxp3/wxp4.
As for the state of GNUmed 1.8:
It is running fully stable and is available from github like
any other version. It will be released to Debian Unstable,
and subsequently Debian Testing, as soon as the current
Debian Testing goes Stable. That should happen "soon" as
Debian Testing is currently in freeze for release.
Now, on to GNUmed 2.0 - this will, of course, still require
Python 3
wxPython 4
but also deliver a database upgrade to v23 as the basis for
further enhancements.
As always, Debian Testing is the recommended platform for
starting to explore the GNUmed ecosystem.
