How often would one do that ? Very rarely in actual practice.
Hence it should not clutter up the login screen. Hilmar
correctly observed that such for-now options have the tendency
to stick around. However, yours is a real need which should be
addressed.

Ian wisely already added "--layout ..." to the client :-)

As I read the code doing "--layout terry" or "--layout
status_quo" should do as intended. I adapted gm-from-cvs.sh to
include commented out examples.
