Note as Gmail never disables the "Compose Mail" or "Inbox" links.
I used Gmail as an example. Gmail is a highly interactive web application. I don't think we should use the same approach all the way through.
My current personal opinion is that it is better do it as Gmail does, that
is to say, just keep always enabled that menu links which link to forms.

I think this way of interacting with a form is unnatural. Especially, it works contrary to many desktop applications (and a few "weblications", like Gmail) which save as you type. On the other hand, web users might not expect us to be quite that "Web
2.0". :)
