After many successful months of GNU Generation, GNU Generation 2.0 was
officially announced at LibrePlanet 2010. This builds upon the original
GNU Generation by lowering the entry barrier to free software
contribution, and making the program more extensible. So what is new? In
a nutshell:

*Tasks* - A new aspect of GNU Generation is "tasks". Tasks are small
action items that can be done by more than one person in a short amount of
time. In fact, the more people that complete a task, the better! On the
wiki, tasks can be found in the Task Box
(http://groups.fsf.org/wiki/Group:GNU_Generation/Task_box). New tasks
will be added periodically. When you complete a task, add yourself to the
list of members completed ("Edit with form" tab) and it will show up on
your profile.

*Progress Reports* - There are now two types of progress reports: standard
Progress Reports, and Task Reports. Progress reports will only occur once
every three months (January, April, July, and October) and will consist of
all contributions to free software. Also every three months (February,
May, August, and November) Task Reports will be submitted. Task Reports
will consist of all tasks completed. Progress Reports may include
completed tasks, but Task Reports may ONLY contain tasks.

*Mentoring Organizations* - Free software projects that would like to get
young people involved have a special page on the wiki
(http://groups.fsf.org/wiki/Group:GNU_Generation/Mentors). Participants
may use the contact information given to inquire about more information.

So what better way to kick off this new GNU Generation than with a T-shirt
design contest? All GNU Generation members are eligible to participate.
Entries must be submitted by April 12. Each member of the month will win
this GNU-Generation-only shirt! The winner of the T-shirt design contest
will also win a copy of his/her own design.

Hopefully these changes will make GNU Generation even better! If you have
any questions, don't hesitate to ask. :)

Happy hacking!
