Ford launches first ever academic program for black entrepreneurship

Ford Motor Company announces a partnership with Babson College and participating Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to launch the first ever academic program to focus on black entrepreneurship. Ninety nine percent of all businesses in the U.S. are small, and create 75 percent of the net new jobs. Overall, minority small firms are growing at 30 percent versus seven percent for all U.S. firms, according to the most recent report from the Commerce Dept. Census Bureau.


Procter & Gamble spends $1Billion for women and minority owned companies
   Procter & Gamble Co. will pass $1 billion in annual contracts with companies owned by minorities and women this year, but still must add more than $400 million in new spending next year to meet its goals.
 
Women Facts


  • Women hold 13.6% of board seats at Fortune 500 companies. The number of seats held by women of color has increased from 2.5% in 1999 to 3% in 2003. Of the Fortune 500, 54 companies have 25% or more women directors in 2003.

  • Women comprise 46.6% of the U.S. labor force, 50% of managerial and professional specialty positions.
