okay, this assertion in line 74 must be the garbage collector. it seems
i did not care about this case too much...

you could try and edit out that assertion (for now), i can try an make
it more link order independent, including the garbage collector.

did you have any success with moving globals.cc around? this sucks, but
always worked (on BSD).
