I just realized (been away from it a while ...) that logic is
now parsed by "obsolete_callback", not by a dispatcher.  This
needs to be fixed in order to make progress here.

Is the digital interface intended for things like a digital filter
that outputs a stream or streams of bits?  When you say one for each
output, is that "one for each single bit stream?"  Or could it be
for a multibit bus datastream like the input to a DAC?
