Be aware of freedom issues with OpenOffice.org: [1], [2].

If you don't need anything from backports then it's better to disable it. We hardly spend any developer time on it, so I'm not sure how well it works.

This looks pretty good. You can delete the word "universe" on these two lines to get rid of the harmless error I mentioned previously. Open a terminal and enter

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

If you make any changes in the Software Sources application after that it might get reset.

If you don't use source code than you can disable it in Software Sources. It's probably not what's causing your error, but disabling helps to pinpoint it.

We can get a better idea of your error if you do the following steps in a terminal and let us know the output:

export LC_ALL=C
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install icecat

Nearly everything works again but I got this message when I tried to install icedtea-gcjwebplugin: (I deleted an folder with such filfe before, because I thought it might help to reinstall icecat) sorry

sudo apt-get install icedtea-gcjwebplugin

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
icedtea-gcjwebplugin: Depends: openjdk-6-jre (>= 6b06) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
