A week ago I had the same problem and suspected it was a conflict between 
add-ons. As I was in a hurry and could not easily find the cause, I removed 
IceCat completely (thus including: .gnuzilla/icecat) and reinstalled it from 
the ppa.launchpad.net/gnuzilla-team. But probably there is a more efficient way.

Every time I start IceCat, it asks to install a GNU Privacy Extension. I click 
on install but it does nothing, and I can't install anything.
Any help?
