Yes it's in development stage.

What we have right now is called gNewSense 3.0 beta 1 (codename: metad)
and it is available as an iso image.
You can burn it or create a bootable usb key. It does only netinstall so
you need to be connected to the internet.

Iso Image is here:

i386:

gNewSense 3.0 stable (codename: Parkes) will be ready when it's ready. :)

gNewSense 2.3 is based on Ubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04.
gNewSense 3.0 beta 1 is based on Debian Lenny
gNewSense 3.0 stable (to be released) will be based on Debian Squeeze.
