Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded.

I'm using the kernel 2.6.33.3-libre-lemote. With the 2.6.33.x kernels have you managed to setup a firewall of any sort?

I tried with .34, .33.2, .32.11 and .32.2. iptables only works with .34.
