[gNewSense-users] how to install octave?

hi

i installed octave using the synaptic
but it installs version 3.0.0,
i went to the octave page and the actual version is 3.2.3
then i downloaded octave-3.2.3.tar.gz
but the GDebi package installer does not recognize it

how can i install packages in this kind of files?
