You can download the latest version from getdeb.net (which was what I
did). It should be noted, though, that getdeb.net also contains non-free
software packages and therefore you should be very picky about what you
install from there. Not to mention that the service itself is non-free
too.
I think it could be a good idea (if the latest version is not in
-backports), to upload it to some repository, so that it would be easier
for others to get the latest version, and wouldn't require them to visit
a non-free website.
