There has been very little communication between Ubuntu (Canonical) and
gNewSense. They did invite Paul and Brian to the Ubuntu developers
gathering, but if anything came of that, it has not yet been announced.

I caution people looking at this as an "Us or them" thing: contributions
to gNewSense benefit Ubuntu, and benefits to Ubuntu benefit gNewSense -
we don't have the option of NOT working with them.

As such, it's important to keep in mind the goals of the distro rather
than the specific technical differences. gNewSense has been committed to
freedom since day one, and delivering that freedom is the primary goal
of gNewSense.

Ubuntu's delivery of a libre operating system is welcomed totally, but
at the same time they will continue to have a distro that contains
non-free things and even makes the assumption that using non-free things
for "missing features" is better than going without those features. This
is a core difference - one that makes me weary of an "Ultra Free"
version of a non-free OS. As long as Ubuntu distributes non-free
applications, I can not be sure that they will CONTINUE to put full
effort into the maintainance of a libre system.

But if they do, it's fully welcomed!
