I agree with Kevin...
lets take this by small steps...

There's one huge problem that I see with gNewSense right now, and I've
spoken with Paul about how I might be able to help fix this.

Simply, gNewSense isn't yet ready to be the showcase that we all want it to be.

There are things that still remain to be done before gNewSense is
fully functional, let alone exceptional. For instance, we don't have a
Server install CD, and doing a "Lightweight" install on a laptop of
older machine is not yet possible at this moment.

Documentation is one thing that gNewSense lacks now, and anyone
willing to help write some would do a lot.

Before we can run we need to walk, and while gNS is a great distro,
it's nowhere near showcase material, too many serious, but not so
flashy thing, still need to be done.

I would *love* to contribute financially to gNewSense and I also think that Paul and Brian should open some type of account to have people sending in contributions. So far the only two institutions I contribute to are the FSF and EFF and I think that gNewSense should also make it possible for people
who want to support it to become 'card carrying gNewSense community
members'.

While Paul and Brian very kindly say that they can cover the costs of
producing gNewSense, there are plenty of advocacy activities which can only
be realized with money: printing T-shirts, creating a gNewSense specific
documentation for first-time users which could be placed on the Gnome/KDE desktop by default ( I am willing to write this documentation if Brian or Paul ask me to), burning a gNewSense DVD with Gnome/KDE/XFCE/Fluxbox desktop
choice available at boot, etc.

Simply put - I think that gNewSense is not only way too good but, even more so, way too important to just remain a 'distro for initiates'. It should
become THE reference distro for all of free software and we all should
aggressively promote it. With the pathetically lame, bloated, insecure and expensive Vista coming out now is the time to give frustrated people a truly
free alternative.

What do you guys think about these suggestions?

Kind regards,

Andrei
