While I think this is great that they are doing it, I am a bit afraid
of this. Or, maybe more to the point, I think it's BS.

Ubuntu was founded on the Social Contract, and that meant a commitment
to keep things Free. Ubuntu went back on that, showing that they
DIDN'T care about freedom as the primary objective.

Will we trust them now? I think gNewSense as a distro makes more sense
than some side version of Ubuntu. The focus in gNS will ALWAYS be
Freedom, above all other things. That's a kind of kinship,
like-mindedness and security that I don't take for granted.

Perhaps the FSF and gNS heads could contact Ubuntu? Let the people who
CARE about Freedom produce the Free distro, that is, gNewSense. If
they want to support Freedom, kick some funds to the project.

Mark Shuttleworth has recently

that
"In addition to all of this, we have restarted the
effort to produce a flavour of Ubuntu that includes no proprietary drivers or firmware at all. In fact, this flavour will take an ultra-conservative approach to all forms of content on the .iso, whether that be artistic or
code. More on that initiative later."
How will this affect
gNewSense, if at all? Have there been any contacts from Mark, the ubuntu
team or Canonical about this?
