In fact, MP3s are not included in Ubuntu -- much to the annoyance of
many new Ubuntu users. They are in multiverse which is not created by or
maintained by anyone at Canonical.

Ubuntu seems to be taking a weird middle ground, the way they/we do with
most of multiverse: it's not really part of Ubuntu and we're not
responsible for it, but it's in a place where you can very easily get
it.

I think this is a product of exactly the situation you describe: it's
not *really* OK but if you look the other way and don't charge money,
you'll probably be left alone.

Since Gnewsense is trying to take the moral high ground on all these
issues, there's really no way that MP3 can be included IMHO.
