ITYM trademarked. Names are generally too short to be creative
enough to have copyright.

There's a copyright problem only because the MozCorps grants one a
trademark licence only if one uses unmodified sources - that is to say,
you have to give up the freedom to adapt the software to your needs if
you want to call it firefox (unless you get some special permission by
doing a deal, Ubuntu-style). Also, there are some things in the source
tarball not under a free licence (branding and so on) but FSF don't seem
to care about freedom to adapt artworks generally, so maybe that's not a
problem for gNS.

I've written/linked more about the firefox/iceweasel situation at
http://mjr.towers.org.uk/blog/2006/debian#iceweasel and
http://people.debian.org/~mjr/legal/licences.html - the second one
also has links to copyright crash courses, the 10 myths and so on,
which it is a very good idea to read before posting about the legal
horrors of software.

So would I. Oh, for a few 36-hour days to build and test all these!

I don't get the "we can't support it" argument against it - gNS can't
support Mozilla, OOo or dozens of other packages itself yet. The debian
maintainers of some Mozilla packages report that they are fairly slow
responding to fixes anyway...

Hope that explains,
