Hey Team,

I've been really inspired this week by the GNU 30 stuff going on around the world and have decided to take a more active role in GNU/Linux.

A little bit about me:

I am 25 and I live in Cincinnati, OH. I moved to the US from Azerbaijan when I was 6 and I speak Russian fluently. I spent 5 years in the US Navy as a medic. I currently work for a software company (oncology specialty) as a technical consultant (do mostly database work, documentation, requirements, interfaces). I have a BS in psychology and am working on an MS specializing in database systems. I want to continue on and finish my PhD.. I am very interested in databases. I am currently researching column oriented database technology, specifically MonetDB.  http://www.monetdb.org/Home

I have been using GNU/Linux since 2003, starting with Suse 8 moving to Ubuntu 4.10-8.04 and I have been using debian testing since 2008. I tried gNewSense 2.4 briefly a few years ago and also used and contributed a little bit to the documentation of Trisquel. I firmly believe in the philosophy, benefits, and promise of free software and I want to do anything I can to contribute.

What I want to do:

I want to play an active development role in gNewSense , this will require some learning on my part. Based on the role description on the gnewsense dev page....

"Skills you possess or want to learn
Python, C, bash, GNU tools, DEB/Packaging, Bugfiling"

>> I know a little bit of python but I am currently learning more (mainly as a way to access mysql)

>> I don't know any C but have always wanted to learn it

>> I am comfortable in bash

>> I am comfortable with most GNU tools

>> I have done some Debian packaging, but need more work

>> I am good at bug filing (I do it at work!)

In short, what I lack in technical experience I make up for in enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. :) I hope that you will allow me to be a part of your community and I cannot wait to dive in, learn more, and make gnewsense the distro of choice!

All the best,

Lev Lazinskiy
