As in, "root" + "<password>" at the GDM screen? That isn't typically
done, and you don't need to do it. Not only that, but you're probably
opening up a lot of security holes by running all of the GNOME baggage
as root.

If you want to be logged into a terminal as root, you can use "sudo su",
or "sudo -s".
