pkg-config should *not* be a requirement, could you send
the sh -x ./configure output rob requested so we can fix
it for hosts w/out pkg-config ?
Generally speaking, everytime we add new features I'd reccomend
all developers to try with their current setup first to check
if the ./configure script is smart enough to exit with an
error if required deps are not found and to find an installed
dependency. This would save us a lot of bug reports.
