[Gm2] Couple of Mac OS X Fixes |

These patches should fix a couple of problems on Mac OS X (at least on
Intel).
The first is for the debugging format. My original patch worked under
tcsh, but not under bash. I haven't tested it on other platforms, but
I think it's rather unlikely it will cause problems.
