Assuming that you installed Yum using a RPM package, what does 'rpm
--list -q yum | grep "rpmtrans"' give you?
On my Fedora 8 x86_64 machine, I get:
address@hidden ~]$ rpm --list -q yum | grep "rpmtrans"
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/yum/rpmtrans.py
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/yum/rpmtrans.pyc
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/yum/rpmtrans.pyo
