I don't have experience with the Drupal Events module, only with
Drupal itself, but the module is pretty widely used and should do the
job -- I will test it out quickly on my own installation to check
that.  The main problem last time was keeping track of all the data:
who was coming, on which day, etc.

The chapters.gnu.org server might be a good place to host it. I've
cc'ed Nacho to see if it's possible to install Drupal there for this
purpos.
