Maybe this provides a clue to what is going wrong with gforth-fast on some platforms?

Interesting. Marcel already identified a workaround, but it is instructive to see where it is happening. This bug is present in the Wintel-32 builds of both 0.6.2 and 0.7.0 gforth-fasts (downloaded pre-built from Anton's gforth home). It is *not* present in the normal (not -fast) versions of the same.

Also, it is *not* present in the 0.7.0 versions that install pre-compiled in Ubuntu-32 and -64, both fast and normal.

That's too bad, because in my experience, the pre-built Win-32 0.7.0 gforth-fast is the fastest gforth around. It is about twice as fast as the Ubuntu build on the same hardware, and a little faster than the 64-bit Ubuntu build on better hardware (3.0 GHz P4 vs 2.6 GHz Athlon).
