Need some help with maven.

I downloaded and installed the latest version to
~/projects/maven-1.0-beta-7.  I then set:

export MAVEN_HOME=$HOME/projects/maven-1.0-beta-7
export PATH=$PATH:$MAVEN_HOME/bin

export JAVA_HOME=/usr

And then:

I have to admit to being a total Java n00b.
