     However...

   * Perhaps then, but definately at the follow-up meeting at ACT,
concerns about the stability of the FSF machines were raised. RMS
has on several occasions assured us that this will be taken care of.
The stability of FSF machines has never been quantified. I believe
that RMS is sincere in wanting the machines to be reliable, I also
believe that people have had bad experiences in the past.

The FSF machines are more reliable at this point than they have ever
been. IMO, reliability depends on simplicity and, while I have been
shouted down on some points, many of the suggestions I put forward to
simplify the setup have been incorporated into the current generation
of GNU servers.

   Open questions:

   * What is Phillip's role/mandate, short and long term, for the
     maintenence of the GDB lists.

At the moment, I'm the only FSF staff hacker in Boston. I've been
working for GNU for a little over a year and I expect to be here for
at least another year. I'm not a gdb hacker. For the long term, IMO,
the gdb list(s) should be looked after by some one closer to the
project than I am. I am fairly close to the setup here in Boston
since I helped design it. Accordingly, I can offer a good deal of
help to who ever wants to assume stewardship of the list(s) at a
future date. RMS asked me to set this up and get it going, he hasn't
asked me to work on gdb.

   * What is the ongoing role of those who have been maintaining the GDB
development infrastructure (mailing lists, mail archive, bug
database, repository, etc.). Will they be continuing these duties
on the FSF machine after the transition.

I strongly suggest that the people interested in GDB development
infrastructure continue to participate. The listserver (fencepost) is
running GNU/mailman and I will happily add anyone interested to the
admin list.

I'm a technical resource here, I don't presume to make policy. RMS is
my boss as well as my friend so when he asks me to do something I try
to comply. He asked me to move these lists to fencepost and that is,
technically, quite doable. I would be happy to have any help that
anyone is willing to offer.

Thanks,
pjr
