Greetings, and thanks for your note!  Please excuse my recent absense
from work and GCL (1 month mini-sabbatical).  

IMHO, cvs 2.6.8pre should be completely ready for acl2.  It is only
awaiting my integration of xgcl for Gordon Novak.  I feel this is a
better way to go than trying a backport to 2.6.7.  The 2.6.x series is
bug-fix only.  Please let me know if this works for you.
