Just a note that one can specify a hard gcc path inside the gcl
executable itself via the compiler::*cc* variable.  Not that this is
necessarily a good idea.

OK, lets call this case closed.  There are some differences in the
.data section dumps you last sent which we can pursue should this be
necessary in the future.  Please excuse my lack of reply here -- to
many fish on the fry.
