[Gcl-devel] 64bit

Greetings! Pleased to announce that preliminary builds on alpha,
hppa, and ia64 are in place. The fasload relocs are not quite working
yet properly, but when they do, I'd like to commit the changes. The
ix86 code appears completely unaffected, though the changes are

As this was an enormous task, I took the following approach -- I wrote
a little script to change all 'int' identifiers to 'long', revert back
code that we borrow externally, like gmp and unexelf.c, compile on
64-bit machines, and cleanup the few remaining errors by hand. Had to
also address the mark_table bit shifts in gbc.c My tree now builds
cleanly on both 32bit and 64bit machines.

Again this is *not* committed yet, but hopefully will be soon. This
is just a heads up as its a big change, and we may want to consider
carefully how we introduce it. If anyone has access to 64 bit
machines on which they'd like to test this, I'd be most grateful.

Take care,
