I think you've covered it all.  Yesterday with gcl 2.5.0 is the first
time I've been able to compile gcl on my Linux box in a long time, so
I haven't had any time to play with it

Of the items mentioned, I think the array-displacement is the most
important issue to me.  I think all the other issues can be worked
around at the Lisp level.
