It actually isn't hard once GCL is built.

Yes - it works well apart from the already recorded need for
STRING-RIGHT-TRIM in "init_max1.lisp".

I tried this yesterday but it died during "configure".  I haven't had time
to look at this since.

Just a native Mingw32 gcc and gcl hosted under Cygwin for the
configuration/shell tools.

Yes, I recall having trouble getting documentation working.

Mingw32 Xmaxima fired up and allowed me to do the examples on the opening
screen including plots, which, I must say, seem to over-fill the display
area so that the axis labels are lost and it scrolls badly.

The menus seem a bit dodgy too.

Shall do, thanks.  Another thing I did yesterday was run make test, which
went for ages before getting an error.  Once again, I havn't followed up on
that yet.
