Hi Dan!  I'll be trying to look at this too, as the lisp:let shows up
all over the place, and that is what is currently blocking my ports
too. 

Does anyone know why maxima must redefine 'let'?  I don't know if it
is significant, but 'let' in gcl is implemented in C, not compilable
lisp.
