Sorry I was cryptic. Trying to get too much done before xmas.
I was thinking of the file ChangeLog in the root directory, as covered
in the GNU coding standards at
http://www.gnu.org/prep/standards_toc.html
It is good to have it in CVS, but useful to have it in the checked out
tree. The GCC project, for example, has a number of ChangeLogs in the
tree. When in the branch of the tree, you use the first one you find
when moving up the directory structure.

Please excuse my error in advance, but I'm not quite sure what you
mean. All my commits have a -m log message attached. Is this not
correct? What further logging would you suggest? I agree that logs
are imperative!
