Just thought I'd forward a link to an article I wrote for the New Left Project website, which was published today.

Obviously this has been written for a specific audience (left-wing, non-techie, political activists), but I hope it should be accessible to a fairly wide demographic. Whilst attempting not to misrepresent the free software movement at all, I have had to keep the jargon to a minimum, which may result in some criticism of me overlooking important issues (eg: binary blobs, patents, etc) but I hope it remains informative and helps to educate a politically engaged readership who have yet to encounter free software.
