Apparently there's a tour every hour and you just turn up, but I don't know if they run them on special weekends:

Yes, that's the only place with direct trains but I should have made that obvious! It's one of the hourly Virgin Piccadilly to Euston trains which stop at Milton Keynes (the other two don't stop between Stoke-on-Trent and Euston).
