I use FreeMind extensively and it does the job for me mostly. It's not quite as
functional as some of the commercial packages out there (MindGenius etc.), but
does have a few nifty tricks of its own. The PDF export can be a little flaky,
but for the most part works. However, I'd recommend not using the version in
the default Ubuntu repositories as it is rather out of date last time I
checked; instead download the latest "platform independent max" version from:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/freemind/files/
(e.g. freemind-bin-max-0.9.0_RC_4.zip)
If you have Java installed (recommend the latest 1.6 and probably the Sun one
for maximum compatibility), then it's just a case of unzipping it somewhere and
running the main binary executable.
