I fully understand Tim's concerns regarding attribution and I also
don't think it's workable for a logo.

It's interesting that no-one's mentioned CC-SA though.

Is PD verses copyleft so important when it comes to a simple image?
It's a genuine question because I'm not sure at the moment and would
be interested to hear others opinions.

I think this is a difficult one and I'm not sure where I stand. It
would be incredibly difficult to check that a logo has been created
using solely free software for starters (does the OS count in this
case or the gfx driver?). Also, mandating only free software excludes
those who want to get involved in the community but aren't yet running
free software or at least free software graphics programs. Maybe
someone doesn't have a computer at home and has to use one at school
where they have no choice of software..
