Maybe.

I believe all copyright terms should be from publications and for much
shorter period of time than they are now.  I am talking specifically
about software though; you may want to apply different rules to
different works.

It may make my life as a developer easier and able to do more.  On the
other hand…

One problem with making things PD at the moment is there is no
requirement to release the source code.  You can release a binary into
the public domain without ever having to release the source code.
