Hi,

I signed up to the Manchester Free Software list because I saw a post from Matt 
on the Infopoint list.  I've no idea who else is here, but I thought I'd 
introduce myself and mention one thing going on in the region that you might 
not be aware of.

I'm one of the owners of Axiom Tech, a local IT company specialising in FLOSS.  
Our aim is to grow Axiom Tech and the whole sector to allow more people to make 
a living from FLOSS.  We're getting there slowly :-)

I'm also involved in the Open Schools Alliance, an organisation dedicated to 
campaigning to get more FLOSS into schools (openschoolsalliance.org).  We're 
arranging a conference on 19th October in Liverpool and looking to get 100-150 
educational decision makers (senior staff, local authority people, etc.) along. 
 

Currently confirmed speakers include someone from Stockport Local Authority 
(which has recently implemented a FLOSS web/email system for all the Stockport 
schools) and one of the key people from Moodle.

We've got a good team organising the event, but we do need more help so if 
anyone fancies getting involved, let me know.
