### The U.S. Copyright Office should end the broken DMCA anti-
circumvention exemptions process

*From January 17th*

The DMCA has some particularly nasty provisions, creating legal
penalties for avoiding Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) or for
sharing the tools to do the same. The law is a damaging blight on
users' rights. It comes, however, with a process for exempting limited
uses from its harm. But as we explained long ago, the process is
completely broken. Join our Defective by Design mailing list to keep
up to date on the latest in the fight against DRM.

### FSF Europe reports back on their experience at the 33rd Chaos
Communication Congress (CCC)

CCC is Germany?s biggest annual meetup of hackers and political
activists that share knowledge concerning the most burning issues on
the Internet, like data retention and data leeches, hatespeech,
whistleblowing and space travel.

### Summary Report: Internet Governance Forum, 2016 December in
Jalisco, Mexico

*From January 7th by Software Freedom Law Centre of India*

This is a report from the 11th annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF)
which was held from the 6th to 9th of December, 2016 in Jalisco,
Mexico, with the overall theme of ?Enabling Inclusive and Sustainable
Growth?. The mandate for the IGF is contained in 2005?s Tunis Agenda
of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), and the first
IGF was convened in Athens in 2006 by the United Nations Secretary
General. It is meant primarily as a facilitating forum for dialogues
amongst participants, to identify emerging issues, bring them to the
attention of the relevant bodies and the general public, and where
appropriate, make recommendations.

### Free FPGA: Reimplement the primitives models

*From March 18th 2016*

Elphel added the AHCI SATA controller Verilog code to the rest of the
camera Field-programmable gate array (FPGA) project. Together they now
use 84% of the Zynq slices. Building the FPGA bitstream file requires
proprietary tools, but all the simulation can be done with just free
software. Please help us to free the FPGA devices for developers by
re-implementing the modules under GNU GPLv3+ license. Take a look at
the models we are looking for!

discover free software. Each entry in the Directory contains a wealth
of useful information, from basic category and descriptions to version
control, IRC channels, documentation, and licensing. The Free Software
Directory has been a great resource to software users over the past
decade, but it needs your help staying up-to-date with new and
exciting free software projects.

To help, join our weekly IRC meetings on Fridays. Meetings take place
in the #fsf channel on irc.gnu.org, and usually include a handful of
regulars as well as newcomers. Everyone's welcome.
