Charter for UKFSFE-Discussion ============================= This list intends: 1. To provide an open forum for the discussion, promotion, protection and evangelism of Free Software (as defined by the FSF[E]) in the UK. 2. To provide the means to create an organisation based on these goals for the UK, with the intention of becoming an associate of the Free Software Foundation Europe. 3. To clearly define the role of this organisation, paying special attention to any local issues in the UK. 4. To provide a means of participation in this UK Free Software Organisation (once formed!), and a channel through which members of this organisation may be contactable. 5. To discuss the implications of Free Software for the UK - with special regard to the legal status of Free Software, and those issues which affect Free Software. 6. To liaise with the FSFE when needed, to participate in the Free Software movement in Europe as a whole, and to provide a conduit through which our European friends may directly contact those interested in Free Software in the UK. 7. To liaise with regional organisations within the UK (the GNU/Linux Users' Groups, for example) with regard to Free Software events, meetings and other happenings of interest, and to provide an information resource for such organisations. This list does not intend: 1. To discuss the relative merits of Free Software compared to Open Source, Proprietary or other licence-types of software. 2. To discuss the creation of a Free Software organisation intended to be uncooperative with the FSFE (or the associates of the FSFE), or with remit beyond the boundaries of the UK. 3. To degenerate into a low-signal-to-noise-ratio flame-pit :)
