NZ govt has referred the issue of software patents to select committee -
this committee has been the focus of activism from all camps and has
returned hdeir advice to parliament this week.

As it stands there are software related patents in NZ, where the
software arguably forms an integral component to a machine.

The committee strongly *rejects* software patents in this context and
affirms the current policy of rejecting non-integral software.

The next step is for parliament to vote on it. Ministers are being
reminded what happened to the last government that went against select
committee recommendations.

So take heart: this is winnable.
